White Coat Clipboard | NP Pocket Medical Reference Guide | 2013 ACLS Reference Cards
One of the biggest, most important aspects of nursing is client confidentiality. As a nurse you are that patient’s primary caregiver, and it is in your best interest to protect them in any and all ways. MDpocket is a neat little company that I have come to love. They sell everything to help you with your clinical or every day use.
I was sent the NPpocket Medical Reference Guide: Nursing Edition, 2013 ACLS Reference Cards, and a White Coat Clipboard: Nursing Edition to take with me on my first day of clinical.
The NPpocket guide is marked as number on in the picture above. It is a full size clipboard, that folds in half and slips into your pocket. I must admit that I was very skeptical about this clipboard at first simply because it seemed unrealistic. I mean, a clipboard that holds 15 pieces of paper. folds in half, fits in your pockets, and does not crease the paper; seems like magic to me.
On the back of the clipboard is different nursing tools as well as my engraved name, and a pen clip labeled as number 4 in the second picture. It shows things such as pupil dilation, pain scale, and places to auscultate the heart.
The picture above shows the clipboard folded in half and ready to go.
One of the things that worried me about the clipboard is the fact that while I was writing their would be a whole from where it folded, but since it is only 1/2 inch closure their was not a problem.
The NDpocket guide contains the following information:
- Catheter selection with uses and implications of line type and gauge.
- EKG lead placement and Chest X-ray diagrams.
- Right sided EKG lead placement diagram with lung anatomy.
- Injection sites for intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal.
- Cardiac auscultation points with heart diagram.
- Hospital phlebotomy tubes with color coded tops.
- Oxygen systems.
- Medication times section with guidelines for IV pump use.
- Wound vac, chest tube, and tracheostomy care.
- Specialized and modified diet sections.
- PICC lines how to section (irrigation, dressing changes, occlusion).
- Heparin how to guide.
- Blood-Plasma-Serum lab values.
- Abbreviations section with common Latin usages.
- Drugs that cannot be crushed section.
- Blank notes pages.
I love to carry this around in my pocket and pull it out as needed. It is especially helpful when looking over patient charts. Another thing that I like to keep in my pocket with me is the ACLS card set. It is great for a quick review of the latest 5 major ACLS algorithms.
Pros
- fits in your pocket
- great, condensed source of information
- keeps patient confidentiality at a maximum
- makes you look cool and proficient
- allows you to keep information literally at your fingertips
- awesome customer service
Cons
- prices are a bit on the higher side, but totally worth it {clipboard $25.95, NPpocket guide $19.95, ACLS Cards $9.99}
Overall, I love my MDpocket clipboard and reference guides and I cannot wait to use them starting at first clinical on Monday! Just remember whether you are a nurse, medical assistant, or UAP; MDpocket has all the tools that you need!

this looks like a great product
thanks for sharing the review with us
It is an awesome product! I love mine! Thanks for the comment!
I know several RN’s who would gladly spend the money on this–the quick reference alone makes it worth it! The ability to have a pocket size note pad that fits in your picket and folds so the paper does not get wet etc is also priceless. I will be sure to tell them about this company–Good luck in your nursing career!
Thank you Michele!
What a great reference! I have 2 friends in nursing school who would absolutely love this for a graduation gift Thanks!
Sounds really useful. Have a bunch of nurses in family… might consider for gifts.
